On becoming a mountain
On becoming a mountain HUMMING IN MY UNIVERSE By Jim Paredes (The Philippine Star) Updated January 31, 2010 12:00 AM As a writer of a weekly column, I often like to flatter or delude myself by fancying that my readers and I have a special thing going — that they eagerly await what I write and avidly devour my writing. The “fancy” is of course, mostly self-flattery, and I admit that it can...

Senator Pimentel--Shame on you!
In an official senate ethics hearing on Villar’ alleged double insertion on the C5 extension project, ROXAS : I had no insertions, period…Let alone an insertion for a road to pass through any such property..” PIMENTEL: Well, I am sure that after your marriage, you had some insertions”. ROXAS:That is an affront on my wife (Korina Sanchez), Mr. President!”. ...

Here are the 2009 winners: 1. Cashtration (n.): The act of buying a house, which renders the subject financially impotent for an indefinite period of time. 2. Ignoranus : A person...

Saying yes to life
Saying yes to life 0 Posted on January 17, 2010 by jimparedes [e] A few days ago, at lunch with my daughter Ala, I told her how happy and proud I was that she did a great job on her first day as a courtroom sketch artist during the arraignment of Andal Ampatuan Jr. the other week. It was a job that came from out of the blue just the night before the trial...

Writing deadlines
Been writing a column for more than three years now, and I have not missed a single week. I have been pretty much reliable and have managed to come out with something for my column in Philippine Star each Sunday for the past 168 weeks or so. My editor must be happy. Yet every week,  I go through the ritual where I stare at the computer screen wondering what to write and worrying whether I will be...

Posted on January 09, 2010 by jimparedes [e] HUMMING IN MY UNIVERSE By Jim Paredes (The Philippine Star) Updated January 10, 2010 I have always had a fascination with languages. I believe that one mark of an educated person is the ability to read, write and speak more than one language. Why? Because it gives him the ability to look at reality from at least...

Read what people say about TCU workshop...
Read what people say about TCU workshop… JIM PERET (Sydney, NSW) TCU workshop was really an eye opener and a mind blowing technique on how to tap the creative   universe. I have also learnt how to deal with and set aside the blocks that stands in my way in everyday life that prevents me from being more creative. I would like to thank Jim Paredes in running this workshop and I really enjoyed...

Tweaking our lives in the New Year
HUMMING IN MY UNIVERSE By Jim Paredes (The Philippine Star) Updated January 03, 2010 12:00 AM A new year always brings the resolve to change things. Only a cynic will not think of how he can improve, change or tweak something in his life to have a greater experience. I know some people who start the year with a haircut or a makeover of sorts — buying a new dress or a shirt just to feel...

Life's mysteries # 1
Why is it that when someone dies, we take comfort imagining that he/she has just gone on a long trip. But when someone we love leaves for a long trip, why can’t we take comfort when someone tells us to just imagine that he/she has died? Is it a case of  A equals B, but not vice-versa?

Best forwarded message this year so far
I would never trade my amazing friends, my wonderful life, my loving family for less gray hair or a flatter belly. As I’ve aged, I’ve become kinder to myself, and less critical of myself. I’ve become my own friend. I don’t chide myself for eating that extra cookie, or for not making my bed, or for buying that silly cement gecko that I didn’t need, but looks so...
